Flexible Riser Outer Sheath Inspection
The complex multi-layered structure of flexible risers create specific inspection challenges. The polymeric outer sheath layer is the first protective layer and also the most susceptible to damage. Its integrity is important to avoid the corrosion of the internal steel layer by the mix of seawater and gases inside the annulus.
A general visual inspection of the outer sheath conducted by an automatic visual system is the best way to identify damage.
Pre-installed cameras and computational vision algorithms can perform inspections with more accuracy. It is safer and faster than human inspection.
